So here we are, Day 3 of my October Mindfulness Challenge: no social media, daily meditation, and daily writing. Something I’ve learned already is that, when you’re not constantly checking your social media throughout the day, it frees up a lot of time for other endeavors. Like more reading and, better yet, even more napping.
And, oh yeah, and more working, too.
I can’t believe how much more productive I’ve been since quitting social media just three days ago. Instead of my normal 1-2 hours of work each day, mixed in between at least 1-2 hours of social media browsing, I’ve been putting in at least 2-3 hours of solid, honest-to-goodness work. Quite frankly, I’m pooped. Now I know how farmers and coal miners must feel at the end of the day.
The meditation is going OK, too. I’m up to 7 whole minutes now. And of that 7 minutes, I estimate that I’ve been able to focus on my breathing for a good…oh…10-20 seconds before my mind starts running off to do something else, like worry about tomorrow, wonder what I’m having for lunch, or play “Val’s Biggest Regrets of the Past — The Greatest Hits!” on a continuous loop. Honestly, I’m feeling more and more centered every day.
As for the writing-every-day part of the challenge…well, I think the results speak for themselves. I mean, not to brag or anything, but this is some pretty compelling writing, if I do say so myself. Pulitzer-worthy, one might say. And I’m sure it’s been making a huge impact my thousands and thousands of loyal readers out there, despite the fact that, so far, I’ve only gotten one comment.
Sometimes silence speaks louder than words.
Honestly, I’m really enjoying this little experiment. Sure, I have no idea what’s going on out there in the “real world.” But, strangely, I’m OK with that. I’m much happier now that I don’t know anything. I guess it’s true what they say: ignorance is bliss.
Just someone please let me know if the world’s gonna end so I can be sure to run out for bread and milk. And beer.~
