Pittsburgh Guest Blogger Event 2016

by

April Fools! Today’s post comes not from me but from Laura Jackson of the Friendly Fitness Foodie blog, and is part of a special day of shenanigans from other Pittsburgh Bloggers. You can see my post over on Josh’s World, where I talk about throwing in the white towel of parenthood.

Enjoy! (And please share!)

Bend, Brew & Brunch II at Spoonwood Brewing Company

spoonwoodbrewingco02DISCLAIMER: Neither Spoonwood Brewing Company, FittPGH nor Pure Power Yoga asked me to write this post. I am just a friendly Pittsburgh Foodie and yogini, whom enjoys sharing her foodie and yoga adventures! Photos were captured with an iPhone 5s, and edited with Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended and Instagram.

Sunday, March 6th, I was lucky enough to attend the 2nd EVER Bend, Brew and Brunch at Spoonwood Brewing Company, in the South Hills neighborhood of Bethel Park. This event was co-organized between Pure Power Yoga (located in Robinson Township), FittPGH (formerly Fittsburgh) and Spoonwood Brewing Company. Last time, this event SOLD out in the matter of days, and I was so bummed that I missed it. This time around, I made sure to purchase my ticket as soon as tickets went on sale!

The yoga class portion of Bend, Brew & Brunch was lead by Annie Federoff (owner and lead teacher of Pure Power Yoga) and Sarah Reed-Lieb. Annie used to teach at South Hills Power Yoga (my yoga home away from home); a few of my friends would rave about her classes. I never had the chance to attend class with her at South Hills Power Yoga; thus, this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Sarah also teaches at South Hills Power Yoga, where I have had the chance to participate in a few classes with her there. When Sarah teaches, it’s evident that she loves sharing yoga with others. Her classes are physically challenging, but Sarah’s humor and light-heartedness help take your mind off the more rigorous poses.

Both ladies took turns leading the class, which was an active one-hour class, but still full of laughs! As Sarah cheerfully reminded us: “you get to drink beer after this class”! This would also be my first time trying Spoonwood’s locally made beer!

My LOVELY Wolkenhimmel taster from Spoonwood Brewery!
My LOVELY Wolkenhimmel taster from Spoonwood Brewery!

The first beer taster was a Hefeweizen called Wolkenhimmel! I must say this was my FAVORITE beer of the brunch! A Hefeweizen is German-style wheat ale with hints of clove and banana. This craft beer was savory and sweet at the same time- just perfect!

I was so eager to try the next taster that I forgot to take a picture! X) The second taster was an IPA called Killer Diller. If you are an IPA fan, I highly recommend this beer! I could definitely taste the citrus, floral and fruit notes of this beer.

There was a third taster (an Oatmeal Stout called Earthside), but by the time I finished the second five ounce taster, I knew there would be no way that I could drive to and teach a yoga class if I had it. Thus, I did what responsible adults do and passed on the third taster. Although, I plan on trying Earthside the next time I visit Spoonwood Brewery!

I could tell Spoonwood used good quality meat for the house-made sausage. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy; I also loved the texture contrast between the butternut squash and the home fries. The beer tasters plus this incredible brunch were THE perfect rewards for this athletic yoga class! 😀

Now, the main event (and my brunch dish of choice): the Butternut Squash Scramble! This dish contained: scrambled eggs (of course), house-made sausage, roasted butternut squash, and onion sprout home fries.

So whether you live in either the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the North Hills or beyond, I highly suggest trekking to Spoonwood Brewery for either brunch & brews or some dinner (PIZZA! They have a wood-fired oven) paired with craft beer!

I also encourage you to visit Pure Power Yoga, located in the Robinson Township suburb of Pittsburgh!

Cheers to Food and Fitness,
